Trooper Wins DWI Award for Second Year in a Row

Yesterday, Louisiana State Police Troop I Trooper James Lazard was honored by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for his efforts in removing impaired drivers from the roadways of Acadiana.

For the second year in a row, Trooper Lazard arrested more impaired drivers than any other law enforcement officer in the state. In 2008, Trooper Lazard arrested the most impaired drivers in the state with 251. In 2009, he arrested 257 impaired drivers. That is a total of 508 people he has arrested for impaired driving in two years. Trooper Lazard’s efforts played a role in reducing the number of alcohol related crashes in the Troop I area, both in 2008 and 2009. Trooper Lazard’s hard work, perseverance, and dedication also earned him the LSP Meritorious Service Award in both 2008 and 2009.

The Commander of Troop I, Capitan Troy Meche says, “Louisiana State Police remains committed to the public's safety while traveling on the roadways of our state. Troopers have a zero tolerance for impaired drivers. If you plan on drinking, designate a driver before we designate one for you. Troopers will continue their efforts in removing impaired drivers from our roadways.”
