Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release April 18, 2010 Single Vehicle Crash Claims One Life Iberia Parish- Yesterday, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a New Iberia man on LA 344 at Emile Verret Road. According to investigating troopers, on April 17, 2010, at 5:28 p.m., a 2001 Ford truck, driven by twenty-nine-year-old Rusty Ruiz, was traveling north on LA 344. Ruiz failed to negotiate a left curve and traveled off the right side of the road. Ruiz overcorrected, crossed both lanes of LA 344 and entered a ditch. The vehicle continued to travel over a private driveway, and stuck a tree and a ditch. Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish coroner. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for results. The crash remains under investigation.
