Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Motorcycle in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash

Baton Rouge, LA Shortly before 9:00 pm on May 22, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash involving a pedestrian on LA 42 (Burbank Dr.) near the intersection of LA 327 (Gardere Ln.) in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 53 year old Karen Tullier of Baton Rouge, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 23 year old Devin Alleman of Plaquemine, LA was traveling westbound on a 1998 Kawasaki motorcycle. For unknown reasons, Tullier was walking in the westbound lane of LA 42 and was struck by Alleman’s motorcycle.

Tullier sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased by doctors. Alleman sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from both Tullier and Alleman for analysis.

Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the roadway. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes.
