Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I Press Release Lafayette Man Killed in Crash Carencro- Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 1252 at Kidder Lane that claimed the life of a Lafayette man. According to investigating troopers, on July 21, 2010, shortly after 6:00 p.m., a 1998 Jeep, driven by 63-year-old Joyce Valentine of Lafayette, LA, was traveling west on LA 1252 approaching an s-curve. Valentine failed to negotiate the curve, ran off the right side of the road, and struck a private driveway. After striking the driveway, the vehicle struck a tree and overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof. Valentine, who was wearing a seatbelt, was moderately injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital. The passenger in vehicle, 49-year-old Joseph Benoit of Lafayette, LA, was killed as a result of the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Benoit was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. Toxicology samples were taken from Valentine and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. This is the 37th fatal crash and the 40th fatality in the Troop I area this year. For More Information Contact: | |||
