Edmonson, Superintendent Troop I- Press Release January 24, 2010 Unrestrained Passenger Killed in Crash Acadia Parish- Last night, Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Eunice woman on LA 35. Killed in the crash was twenty four year old Petra Briscoe. Briscoe was killed when, the vehicle she was riding in ran off the road and rolled over. Briscoe was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. Briscoe was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner. According to the investigating troopers, on January 23, 2010, shortly after 8:00 pm, a 1996 Toyota Camry, driven by twenty nine year old Matthew McBride of Church Point, was traveling north on LA 35 near milepost 40. McBride failed to negotiate a right curve and ran off of the east side of the road. The Camry struck a utility pole and rolled over on its roof. Briscoe was partially ejected through the driver side window, and was killed. McBride was arrested and charged with DWI 1st Offense, Vehicular Homicide, Careless Operation, and being an Unlicensed Driver. McBride was booked into the Acadia Parish Correctional Center. Blood and urine samples were obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicology results. The crash remains under investigation.
