Impaired Drivers Cause

Two Separate Crashes

January 31, 2009

Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated two separate crashes involving two Impaired Drivers, with one Impaired Driver crashing into a fully marked state police unit.

The first crash occurred at around 8:20 am this morning, when Trooper Cy Landry, was patrolling westbound on US 90 in Iberia Parish and was struck from behind by a 1997 Lincoln Town Car driven by forty-three year old Pernell Tobias of Kenner, La. Trooper Landry and Tobias were not injured in the crash. Tobias was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail with Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, No Proof of Insurance and DWI 2nd Offense when he was found to be more than two times the legal alcohol limit.

The second crash occurred shortly before 3:00 pm this afternoon, when twenty-five year old Monica Reeves of Baton Rouge, La, was operating a 2007 Chevrolet HHR eastbound on I-10 near the construction zone. Reeves, was traveling at a high rate of speed and was not able to stop for other vehicles that had already stopped, for the construction zone ahead. Reeves struck the rear of one vehicle causing a chain reaction and then struck the guardrail before coming to rest on the right shoulder. Five vehicles were involved in this crash and one person was transported to a Baton Rouge Hospital for minor injuries. The crash closed both eastbound travel lanes for forty-five minutes before troopers were able to clear the roadway. Reeves was charged with Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and DWI First Offense and was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.

These two crashes prove, that impaired drivers do not just drive at night and are always a danger to them selves and to the public.
