St. Mary Parish Crash Kills Franklin Man |
LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, SuperintendentSt. Mary Parish Crash Kills Franklin Man
May 3, 2009
Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash within St. Mary Parish.
The fatal crash occurred at around 6:00 pm yesterday on LA 317 near Burns Point. Twenty-two year old Lance Dowdy of Franklin, La, was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, south on LA 317 at a high rate of speed, when for unknown reasons traveled off the right side of the roadway. Investigators say Dowdy over corrected traveling across LA 317, steered left and traveled back across the roadway and again traveled off the right side of the roadway, into the ditch where the vehicle he was operating struck several pilings and over turn in a small canal. Dowdy was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is the twenty-second fatal crash and the twenty-sixth fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2009.
