State Police Arrest
Local Dentist

May 14, 2009
Louisiana State Police Region II Criminal Investigators have completed an investigation that led to the arrest of a licensed Louisiana dentist for prescribing Controlled Dangerous Drugs beyond her authority.

In March of 2009, investigators began an investigation after they received a complaint from a confidential source, regarding the suspected criminal conduct of thirty-two year old Dentist Vintage Poirier, of Arnaudville, Louisiana. For the past 11 months Poirier has been prescribing Alprazolam (Xanax), Hydrocodone (Lortab), Diazepam (Valium), Oxycodone, and Methadone to patients without any legitimate dental purpose. All of these are drugs classified as Controlled Dangerous Substances which require a prescription. During the course of the investigation, Poirier voluntarily surrendered her DEA license, which authorized her to prescribe Controlled Dangerous Substances in the proper practice of her profession.

On May 14, 2009, Poirier surrendered to State Police Dectives at the St. Landry Parish Jail. Poirier was booked and charged with 48 counts of Prescribing Controlled Dangerous Substances beyond her authority.

Illegal prescribing by physicians and/or dentists is a major source of diverted pharmaceuticals. Corrupt prescribers often create fraudulent prescriptions to obtain drugs for personal use, and they also write prescriptions for individuals without a legitimate need for the drug.

Anyone having information or questions concerning pharmaceutical diversion or any other type of illicit drug activity should contact Louisiana State Police at 337-262-3341or their local law enforcement agency.
