Edmonson, Superintendent Update To Double Fatality in St. Landry Parish May 20, 2009 Troop I investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 182 at US 167, which left two people dead, after a police pursuit on May 16, 2009. This morning, troopers charged twenty-three year old Blake Reine of Prairieville, La, with DWI 1st Offense, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, 2cts of Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Disregarded Traffic Control, Driving Under Suspension and No Seatbelt. Reine was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail. Reine was fleeing from police after being involved in a Hit and Run crash in Opelousas. According to witnesses, Reine was traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop for the red light and struck another vehicle broadside, killing a Ville Platte man. Reine’s uncle thirty-six year old Jody Reine of St. Amant, La, was also killed in the crash. This is the twenty-fourth fatal crash and twenty-ninth fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2009. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
