Edmonson, Superintendent St. Landry Crash Kills Two June 24, 2009 Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on I-49 within St. Landry Parish, that claimed the life of an adult male and twelve year old female. The single vehicle crash occurred around 9:15am yesterday morning on I-49 southbound near milepost thirty-one. Thirty-six year old Miriam Mondragon of Sarasota, Fl, was operating a 2000 Nissan SUV, south on I-49. According to Mondragon, she fell asleep at the wheel and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled down an embankment in the median and overturned several times. Three out of the five occupants were ejected as the vehicle overturned. The driver and front seat passenger, who were restrained with seatbelts, remained in the vehicle up to the point where it came to rest. Forty-three year old Ricardo Cinsnero of Sarasota, Fl, was ejected from the vehicle and was fatally injured at the scene. Mairim Ibarra, the twelve-year-old daughter of the driver was also ejected and died while being transported to Opelousas General by Acadian Air Med. Out of the three survivors, the front passenger was transported to Opelousas General with minor injuries. The driver and 7-year-old passenger were transported to Lafayette General by ground units. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
