Edmonson, Superintendent Head-On Crash Kills One And Injures Two July 20, 2009 Louisiana State Police –Troop I is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash, which claimed the life of an Eunice resident and injured two others. The crash occurred around 4:30 am this morning, on LA 13 just south of Eunice, near LA 370. Forty-two year old Steven Ortego of Eunice, La, was operating a late model GMC SUV southbound on LA 13, Ortego’s vehicle struck an early model GMC truck, which was traveling, northbound on LA 13 and driven by twenty-year-old Kendrick Guillory of Eunice, La. Thirty-three year old Raven Mitchell of Eunice, La, was a passenger in the Guillory and was pronounced dead at the scene. Guillory and Ortego were transported to local hospitals with moderate injuries. The Head-on impact of both vehicles occurred within neutral area on LA 13 at this location. Investigators say both vehicles crossed the centerline just prior to impact. Both drivers and passenger were not restrained during the crash. Troop I has investigated thirty-six fatal crashes, which has resulted in forty-two fatalities thus far in 2009. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
