Edmonson, Superintendent Unrestrained Driver Dies In Crash February 11, 2009 Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 89 within Iberia Parish that claimed the life of a St. Martinville resident. The single vehicle crash occurred around 12:45pm today on LA 89 near Raven Road. Twenty-six year old Qiana Barabin of St. Martinville, La, was operating a 1995 Buick Lesabre, south on LA 89, when for unknown reasons drove off the right side of the roadway. Barabin then overcorrected causing the vehicle to travel back onto the roadway and overturn. Barabin was not restrained as the vehicle overturned and she was partially ejected. Barabin was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other passengers in the vehicle were transported to local hospitals with moderate injuries. Although alcohol/drugs are not suspected in the crash, test results are pending at the LSP Crime Lab. This is the eighth fatal crash and the eleventh fatality Troop I has investigated thus far in 2009. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
