Louisiana State Police – Troop I is investigating a one vehicle fatal crash in St. Landry Parish.
The fatal crash occurred at around 6:30 pm yesterday, on LA 105 just north of Melville, La. Twenty-nine year-old Colertha Chaney of Morganza, La, was operating a 1999 Plymouth Voyager, northbound on LA 105, when for unknown reasons traveled off the roadway. Chaney was unable regain control of the vehicle before the van overturned. Three unrestrained children ages three, seven and nine, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Twenty-Five year old Jamie Chaney of Morganza, La, was also a passenger in the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Colertha Chaney was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Chaney was charged with Negligent Homicide, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Open Alcohol Container and Careless Operation. Chaney was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail.
