Edmonson, Superintendent St. Landry Crash Kills Broussard Man August 12, 2009 Louisiana State Police – Troop I investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on I-49 within St. Landry Parish, that claimed the life of a Broussard man. The two-vehicle crash occurred around 10:30am this morning on I-49 northbound near milepost fifteen. Seventy-two year old John Prejean of Broussard, La, was operating a 1992 Chevrolet Truck northbound on I-49. Forty-eight year old Michael Proctor was operating an eighteen-wheeler northbound on I-49 within the right travel lane. Proctor had stopped on I-49 in the right travel lane, due to stopped vehicles in front of him. For unknown reasons, Prejean struck the rear of the eighteen-wheeler. Traffic was moving slow due to roadwork crews restriping the roadway on I-49. Prejean, was not restrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries.
