Lafayette Woman In Critical Condition After Crash

Iberia Parish- Yesterday, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a 3 vehicle crash on US 90 west of Darnell Rd. in Iberia Parish, that left one woman in critical condition. The eastbound lanes of US 90 were closed due to the crash, and did not reopen until 9:30 pm last night.

Critically injured in the crash was thirty eight year old Jennifer Carrier of Lafayette, LA. As a result of the crash, Carrier was ejected from her vehicle. She was transported to a local area hospital by Air Med.

The investigating troopers from Troop I said that Carrier was operating her 2004 Toyota Solara westbound on US 90 west of Darnell Rd. A 2005 Kenworth 18 wheeler, driven by forty five year old Joseph Washington of St. James, LA, was traveling east on US 90 near Neco Town Rd. A 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by sixty year old Marie Ferguson of Jeanerette, LA, was traveling behind the 18 wheeler. The Toyota ran off of the right side of the westbound lanes, and Carrier over steered to the left and crossed both of the westbound lanes. Carrier’s vehicle traveled through the median and entered the eastbound lanes of US 90. After entering the eastbound lanes, the Toyota struck the left side of the 18 wheeler. After impact the Toyota began to rotate, and Carrier was ejected from the vehicle. The 18 wheeler continued to travel east, and came to rest on the outside shoulder of US 90 eastbound. The Toyota came to rest in the median. The Pontiac was struck by debris after the initial impact by the Toyota and the 18 wheeler. Neither Washington nor Ferguson were injured in the crash.

As in all crashes involving fatal or critical injuries, toxicology tests for all three drivers were obtained, and the results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.
