Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent November 14, 2009 Lafayette Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges Lafayette- Troopers with the Louisiana State Police, assisted by officers with the Lafayette Police Department, and deputies from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, arrested a Lafayette man on charges of attempted distribution of pornography involving juveniles. In September, troopers began an investigation into the distribution of child pornography. During the investigation, undercover troopers purchased digital recordings of child pornography. The recordings were purchased from sixty four year old, William Rinehart, a convicted sex offender, residing at 318 Palms Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana. On November 13, 2009, troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Rinehart, as well as a search warrant for Rinehart’s residence. During the search troopers seized Rinehart’s computers and electronic storage media. Rinehart was taken into custody without incident. Rinehart was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the following charge: One count of Attempted Distribution of Child Pornography This case remains under investigation.
