Lafayette Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash

October 20, 2009

Evangeline Parish- Shortly after 11:30 am, a Lafayette man was killed when the vehicle he was riding in ran off LA 115 near LA 181, overturned and came to rest on its roof.

Killed in the crash was the passenger, fifty-three year old Theodore Oliver of Lafayette. The driver of the vehicle, seventy three year old Virginia Hebert of Mermentau, LA, sustained only minor injuries. Both Oliver and Hebert were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Mr. Hebert was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the investigating troopers from Troop I, a 2003 Ford Escort, operated by Ms. Hebert, was traveling north on LA 115 when it ran off of the road to the right in a curve. Ms. Hebert overcorrected crossing both lanes of travel, and struck a ditch. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof.

Ms. Hebert was not cited in the crash however, the crash remains under investigation. Toxicology test results are pending.
