| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent November 7, 2009 Troopers Investigating Haz-Mat Crash Acadia Parish- Troopers, with the Louisiana State Police Troop I, are currently investigating a single vehicle crash at the eastbound Interstate 10 Exit 76 off ramp. The ramp, as well as LA 91 overpass to Interstate 10, is currently closed. According to the investigating troopers, shortly after 1:00 pm today, Troop I was notified of an overturned 18 wheeler on the Exit 76 off ramp at Interstate 10. Twenty-three year old Pedro Betancourt, was operating a 1995 Freightliner on the Exit 76 eastbound off ramp on Interstate 10. Betancourt failed to negotiate a left curve at the exit. The vehicle ran off the left side of the road, and rolled onto its left side. The vehicle was carrying Hydrogen Peroxide Aquis Solution, which is considered a hazardous material. The substance, which leaked from its containers, forced officials to close the exit ramp as well as the north and southbound lanes of the LA 91 overpass of Interstate 10. State Police Haz-Mat personnel were contacted, and they are on scene working to clean up the spill. Betancourt was not injured as a result of the crash, and was issued a citation for careless operation of a motor vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
