TROOP I NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Iberia Parish New Iberia – Shortly after 2:30 am on September 29, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 182 near Spanish Lakes Boat Launch in Iberia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 40-year-old Michael Begnaud of New Iberia. The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed Begnaud was driving a 2013 GMC Terrain westbound on LA Hwy 182. For unknown reasons, Begnaud crossed the center line into the eastbound lane of travel. Upon doing so the GMC struck an eastbound 2019 Toyota pickup. Begnaud was not restrained; He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Impairment is unknown, but toxicology samples were taken from the drivers for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. There is no further information available at this time.
