Joint Investigation Leads to Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Items in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge, LA – State Troopers and Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a Baton Rouge man yesterday following a month-long investigation into the burglary of the home of Louisiana State Representative Joseph Major Thibaut. On April 2, Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Detectives began an investigation into the burglary, where several items were stolen, including a John Deere ZTR lawnmower, a 16 foot utility trailer, a Generac generator, and a number of televisions, power tools, and firearms. The total amount of stolen items reported was estimated to be approximately $35,000.00. On Tuesday, April 6, 2010, State Police Detectives assisted Pointe Coupee Sheriffs Detectives in recovering the stolen lawn mower and generator at a residence on Maple Dr. in Baton Rouge. Henry Kirklin (B/M, age 39) of Baton Rouge was one of the individuals who was arrested at that time for Illegal Possession of Stolen Things in connection with the stolen lawnmower.
On May 5, 2010, Detectives learned that DNA Analysts at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab were able to match a DNA profile that was retrieved from a screw driver used in the commission of the burglary with Kirklin's DNA sample that was obtained at the time of his arrest in April. Detectives obtained a warrant for Kirklin’s arrest, charging him with Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling. On May 6, 2010, State Police Detectives and Pointe Coupee Sheriffs Detectives located Kirklin on Paige Dr. in Baton Rouge and placed him under arrest. He was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and booked as a fugitive. He was then released to the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriffs Department and taken to the Pointe Coupee Parish Prison and booked for Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling.
