Unrestrained Mississippi Men Die in Head-On Crash in East Feliciana Parish

Norwood, LA – Shortly after 12:00 am on May 24, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 19 south of LA 422 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of a 35 year old Julius Packnett and 39 year old Adam McKey of Centreville, MS.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Packnett was traveling southbound on LA 19 in a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria. At the same time, McKey was traveling northbound on LA 19 in a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. For unknown reasons, Packnett’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and collided head-on into McKey’s vehicle. After impact, McKey was ejected from his vehicle as it rotated to the left and overturned.

Packnett and McKey were unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Packnett and McKey for analysis.

As we enter into our second day of the Click It or Ticket campaign, this crash is painful reminder of the importance of seat belt use. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
