Motorcyclist Succumbs to Injuries in Acadia Parish Crash

Branch – At approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 6, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 365 near Heinen Road in Acadia Parish. The crash ultimately took the life of 78-year-old Ronald Lawson of Crowley.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed Lawson was driving a 2013 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic when he failed to negotiate a curve and exited the roadway. Lawson was ejected from the motorcycle upon entering the ditch.

Lawson, who was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. On April 10th, State Police was notified that Lawson succumbed to injuries. Impairment is not suspected but standard toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Making good choices such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, avoiding all distractions, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death. Troopers encourage all motorcycle riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course.
