TROOP I NEWS RELEASE May 30, 2019 Crowley Man Dies from Injuries Sustained in Crash Acadia Parish – Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on May 19, 2019, Troopers with Troop I responded to a serious injury crash on LA 13 at the intersection with LA 92. This morning, 40-year-old Shawn Abshire succumbed to his injuries at Lafayette General Hospital. The preliminary investigation revealed Abshire was traveling east on LA 92 in a 2002 Chevrolet S-10. Abshire approached the intersection with LA 13 when, for unknown reasons, he failed to yield to a 2005 Nissan Sentra being driven southbound on LA 13 by 18-year-old Brayden Vincent of Morse, LA. Abshire was unrestrained and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Lafayette General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service. Vincent was restrained during the crash and suffered moderate injuries. He was also transported to Lafayette General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service. Impairment is unknown as a factor in this crash. Vincent submitted a blood sample and toxicology results are pending through the LSP Crime Lab. Troopers were unable to obtain a blood sample from Abshire due to the level of care he required at the time of the crash. This crash remains under investigation, and there is no further information at this time. Troopers remind motorists to always look and make sure it is clear before pulling into traffic or across intersections. Never try and “make it” across when it is unsafe to do so. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Contact Information: | |||
