Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Pedestrian Struck and Killed in East Feliciana Parish BATON ROUGE - A passing car on a dark stretch of LA 955 struck a 53-year-old Ethel man last night shortly before 9:00 p.m. Felton B. Whitfield (B/M) was walking westbound on LA 955 in the westbound lane near the center-line when he was struck by a 2007 Mercedes, being driven by Joseph Washington (B/M, age 58). Washington was driving the Mercedes west on LA 955 when the crash occurred. Both Washington and his passenger were properly restrained when the crash occurred and neither was injured. Whitfield sustained serious injuries from the crash. Acadian Ambulance transported Whitfield to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where staff he later died due to his injuries. Alcohol use by Whitfield is suspected to have been a factor in this crash. Alcohol use on the part of Washington was not suspected. However, Washington submitted a breath sample to the Intoxilyzer 5000 with no detectable alcohol in his system. State Troopers have submitted a sample of Whitfield’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
