TROOP I NEWS RELEASE Woman Succumbs to Injuries Received in Acadia Parish Crash Acadia Parish – At approximately 10:20 am on May 16, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle injury crash on LA Hwy 365 near Schule Road in Acadia Parish. The crash ultimately took the life of 21-year-old Mary Helen Hundley of Branch. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Hundley was driving a 2014 Kia Sportage westbound on LA Hwy 365. At the same time, Scory Demouchet was parked on the roadway in the westbound lane in a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer. Despite Demouchet’s emergency flashers being activated, Hundley’s SUV struck the rear of the tractor-trailer. Hundley was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was transported to Lafayette General Hospital in critical condition. On May 17th Hundley succumbed to injuries received in the crash. Demouchet was properly restrained and was not injured. Impairment is not suspected but standard toxicology samples were obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
