Impairment Suspected in Crash that Killed Motorcyclist in Ascension Parish

Gonzales, LA Shortly after 2:00 am on May 27, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 429 (Weber City Rd.) near the intersection of Roddy Rd. in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 57 year old Brion Landry of Baton Rouge, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Landry was driving his 2005 Honda motorcycle on LA 429. Landry failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the right side of the roadway. Landry’s motorcycle continued off the roadway into a ditch and ejected Landry and his passenger.

Despite the fact that Landry was wearing a DOT approved safety helmet, he sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Landry’s passenger was also wearing a DOT approved safety helmet and sustained minor injuries. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash and a toxicology sample will be taken from Landry for analysis.

In 2015, motorcyclists were involved in 1,951 crashes across the state resulting in 80 fatalities. Louisiana State Troopers would like to encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired, can often mean the difference between life and death.
