TROOP I NEWS RELEASE September 3, 2021 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Early Morning Crash New Iberia – On September 3, 2021, at 3:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 83 near S. Lewis Street in Iberia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 60-year-old Jed R. Rodrigue of New Iberia. The preliminary investigation revealed, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Rodrigue, was traveling south on LA 83. Rodrigue failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the right side of the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the Chevrolet traveled through a ditch, entered a private yard, and struck a tree. Rodrigue was not restrained at the time of the crash and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a New Iberia area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained from Rodrigue and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. Statistics show the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained but the decision not to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear a seat belt. Contact Information: | |||
