Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE Two-Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Motorcyclist UPDATE – Identification of the deceased was being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. Troopers made that notification last night. The driver of the motorcycle was Daniel K. Edelen (W/M, age 30) of Baker, LA. Quang Nguyen, the driver of the Honda Accord involved in the crash, is a Baton Rouge resident. BATON ROUGE – At approximately 1230 p.m. on LA 64 near LA 410 (Blackwater Road) in East Baton Rouge Parish, a 2006 Honda Accord struck a 2002 Honda Valkyrie Motorcycle, killing the motorcycle rider, after the driver of the Accord lost control of the vehicle and crossed the centerline. Quang Nguyen (M, age 19) was driving the Accord west on LA 64 when he ran off the road to the right, re-entered the roadway, overcorrected, and began to rotate clockwise. As the vehicle rotated, it crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound lane into the oncoming path of the motorcycle. The driver’s side of the vehicle struck the motorcycle, and the motorcyclist died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Nguyen suffered only minor injuries in the crash. State Police charged Nguyen with Careless Operation and confiscated his driver’s license. Additional charges may be forthcoming from the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s office pending the outcome of the crash investigation. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in this crash. However, Nguyen submitted a breath sample to the Intoxilyzer 5000 and Troopers have submitted a sample of the motorcyclist’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. The results of the breath sample showed no detectable alcohol in Nguyen’s system. Contact Information: Tpr Russell G.
