June 14, 2021 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Crash in Evangeline Parish Evangeline Parish – Shortly after 4:30 p.m., on June 13, 2021, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 13 near Brud Lane in Evangeline Parish. The crash took the life of 25-year-old Dustin D. Pierce of Opelousas. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Pierce was driving south on LA 13 in a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. For unknown reasons, Pierce failed to negotiate a curve and the vehicle he was driving ran off the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the Malibu overturned causing Pierce to be ejected from the vehicle. Pierce was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He pronounced deceased at the scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown but a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that, while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death. Troop I has investigated 27 fatal crashes resulting in 34 deaths in 2021. Contact Information:
