Operation Troop ‘A’ssist Up and Running

BATON ROUGE – After reviewing hundreds of emails from concerned citizens throughout the Troop A area, supervisors at Troop A decided to focus an enforcement effort on LA 16 north of Watson in Livingston Parish. Over a one-week period, from April 16 to April 24, Troopers saturated this area in an effort to increase awareness and decrease reportedly aggressive driving. During this time, Troop A Troopers wrote the following citations:

- 29 Speeding citations
- 26 Seatbelt citations
- 11 Drivers License citations
- 7 Child restraint citations
- 20 Warning citations
- 2 Driving while Intoxicated arrests
- 1 Public Bribery
- 60 Other citations

In addition, many of the emails regarding this area advised of problems regarding aggressive driving by commercial vehicles. Accordingly, our Transportation and Environmental Safety Section (TESS) conducted focused patrols in this area from April 1 to April 16 with the following results:

- 28 Inspections
- 3 overweight violations
- 111 Safety violations issued

TESS Troopers also removed ten commercial vehicles from service due to critical safety violations discovered during the inspection process.
