March 9, 2022 Driver Succumbs to Injuries in St. Mary Parish Crash St. Mary Parish – At approximately 9:00 p.m. on February 15, 2022, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a single-vehicle crash on LA 83 in St. Mary Parish. The crash ultimately took the life of 56-year-old Yancy Joseph of Franklin. The initial investigation by State Police revealed the crash occurred as Joseph was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata south on LA 83. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle ran off the roadway and struck an embankment then overturned. Upon doing so, the Sonata came to rest in a private yard. Joseph was restrained at the time of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital in non-critical condition. On March 9, 2022, Troop I was notified by the St. Mary Coroner’s office that Joseph had succumbed to his injuries on March 3, 2022. Due to Young’s non-critical status at the time of the crash, no chemical test was administered to Joseph. Troop I has investigated 5 fatal crashes resulting in 7 deaths in 2022.
