December 15, 2021 Two-Vehicle Crash in Acadia Parish Leaves Driver Dead Acadia Parish – On December 15, 2021, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 98 near Mamou Prairie Road in Acadia Parish. The crash claimed the life of 42-year-old Jerry J. Menou of Iota. The initial investigation revealed Menou was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu onto LA 98 from a private driveway. Menou failed to yield and drove into the path of an eastbound 2007 Ford F150. The Malibu was stuck on the right side by the F150. Menou was unrestrained and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the F150 were not restrained but, were not injured. Standard toxicology samples were obtained from Menou and results are pending. The driver of the F150 submitted a breath sample indicating no alcohol present and showed no signs of impairment. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained and not driving impaired or distracted can often mean the difference between life and death. Troop I has investigated 59 fatal crashes resulting in 70 deaths in 2021. Contact Information:
