Double-Billing “Cracks” Case, Contract Worker Arrested

BATON ROUGE – Detectives from the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud Unit arrested Bradley M. Businger (W/M, age 26) of Gonzales today after a lengthy investigation stemming from complaints submitted by AIG and Allstate Insurance Companies. Detectives learned that customers of the Baton Rouge based windshield repair business, “Crack Attack”, were being double-billed for windshield repairs. The investigation revealed that Businger had submitted nearly 30 billing invoices for repairs he never performed. In some cases, the policyholders’ signatures were forged to show that they had authorized the work. The insurance companies paid out a total of $1,919.00 on the false billing between February and December 2008. Businger was a contract employee for Crack Attack during this time, and his employment with Crack Attack ended in December 2008. The owners of Crack Attack cooperated with State Police Detectives throughout the investigation.

On May 8, Insurance Fraud Unit Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Businger in East Baton Rouge Parish. Detectives searched for Businger until today when they found him at a residence in Ascension Parish. Detectives arrested Businger, transported him to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, and booked him on 28 counts of Insurance Fraud Pertaining to Auto Policies, 5 counts of Forgery, and 2 counts of Felony Theft.

The Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud Unit has investigated a number of similar cases in the Baton Rouge area over the past few years. Detectives would like to ensure that the public is aware of this potential scam. People should pay close attention to their insurance policies, bills, and receipts, and report anything suspicious to their insurance company.
