| Troop I - NEWS RELEASE August 13, 2015 Proactive Interstate 10 Traffic Stop Leads to Significant Marijuana Seizure St. Martin Parish – On August 12, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I made a significant discovery of illegal narcotics and currency during the course of a traffic stop on Interstate 10 eastbound. Troopers’ proactive efforts led to the seizure of over 300 pounds of marijuana and over $4,000 in U.S. currency. The discovery of the contraband took place shortly before 1:00 am yesterday morning following a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Henderson. Troopers on routine patrol observed a 2005 Ford F150 commit a traffic violation while traveling east on the interstate. Upon speaking with the driver, 36 year old Herbert Harper of LaPlace, LA, Troopers became suspicious of Harper’s behavior and subsequently requested a State Police K-9 to respond to the traffic stop. Following a positive alert by the State Police K-9, Troopers’ search revealed the presence of approximately 344 pounds of marijuana and $4,177.00 in U.S. currency. Harper and his passenger, 22 year old Terrill James of Mobile, Al, were subsequently placed under arrest without incident and booked at the St. Martin Parish Jail on a charge of Possession of marijuana over 400 Grams. Harper was also charged with Impeding the Flow of Traffic and Illegal Window Tint.
