TROOP I NEWS RELEASE October 11, 2015 Fatal Acadia Parish Crash Results in Vehicular Homicide Arrest On October 10, 2015, shortly before 11:20 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a vehicle crash on LA 35 south of LA 367 near the Branch Volunteer Fire Department. The crash resulted in the death of a Branch woman and the arrest of a Church Point man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Ford F250 driven by 24-year-old Jean Mouille of Church Point and a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by 34-year-old Crystal Castille of Branch were traveling North on LA 35. Mouille attempted to pass Castille, but struck the rear left side of her vehicle with the front right side of his truck. After impact, Castille ran off of the right side of the roadway and struck a telephone pole. Castille was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but suffered critical injuries. She was transported to Acadia-St. Landry Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. A toxicology sample was obtained from Castille and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Mouille was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Troopers suspected Mouille was impaired at the time of the crash. Mouille submitted to a chemical breath test and was found to be over the legal limit of .08g%. Mouille was charged with vehicular homicide, reckless operation, open container and illegal window tint. Mouille was booked into the Acadia Parish Correctional Center. This crash remains under investigation. | |||
