TROOP I NEWS RELEASE October 18, 2015 Unrestrained Krotz Springs Man Killed in Crash St. Landry Parish- Shortly after midnight on October 18, 2015, Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on LA 105, near Atkins Bayou, that claimed the life of a Krotz Springs man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Ford truck operated by 58-year-old Jeffery Nall of Krotz Springs, was traveling south on LA 105. For reasons still under investigation, Nall traveled off of the right side of the roadway and overcorrected. Nall’s vehicle began to rotate counterclockwise, traveled off of the left side of the roadway, and entered a ditch. The Ford truck began to overturn, ejecting Nall who was not wearing a seat belt. Nall suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained from Nall and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. This was the 56th Fatal Crash and 59th Fatality Troop I has investigated this year. Contact Information: | |||
