TROOP I NEWS RELEASE
November 2, 2015
Lack of Seat Belt Usage and Careless Operation are Factors in Deadly Crash

Acadia Parish Shortly before 7:00 pm on November 1, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 10 eastbound near MP# 85, east of Rayne. The crash took the life of 21 year old Britaney Waldrep of Carencro, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Waldrep was driving a 2008 Nissan Maxima eastbound in the right lane on Interstate 10. Waldrep had just overtaken a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo, operated 27 year old Miranda Olivier of Maurice, and began to change back into the right lane. In doing so, the rear right of Waldrep’s vehicle struck the front left side of the Chevrolet Aveo. After impact, both vehicles ran off of the right side of the roadway and Waldrep’s vehicle began to overturn.

Waldrep was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from her vehicle. She suffered fatal injuries as a result and was pronounced dead on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Two passengers in Waldrep’s vehicle were properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Olivier was properly restrained and suffered minor injuries. Impairment is not considered to be a factor; however, toxicology samples were taken from Waldrep and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Olivier submitted to a chemical test and was not impaired.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a motor vehicle crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
