Two Traffic Stops Lead to Four Arrests

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State Troopers recovered approximately one million dollars worth of stolen flat screen televisions following a traffic stop on I-12 in Livingston Parish. On a separate, unrelated incident, Troopers arrested two New Orleans men responsible for nearly 20 burglaries in the Baton Rouge area following a short vehicle and foot pursuit.

The first traffic stop occurred in Livingston Parish on Interstate 12 near Holden shortly after 1:00 p.m. today. A State Trooper stopped an 18-wheeler traveling east on I-12 for improper display of the license plate. During the traffic stop, the Trooper noticed discrepancies with the Bill of Laden and the driver’s travel itinerary. The Trooper then obtained consent to search the vehicle and opened the trailer, which was loaded with flat screen televisions. The Trooper contacted the Louisiana State Police Detectives Section to assist in the investigation. Detectives were able to determine that the televisions were stolen from a warehouse in Dallas. State Police Detectives interviewed the driver, Abdel Alvarez (H/M, age 36) of Hialeah, FL, and his passenger, Rodolfo Hernandez (H/M, age 46) of Dallas, TX, and determined that the televisions were stolen from Dallas, TX and destined for Florida. There were an estimated 400 televisions in the trailer, with a value of approximately one million dollars.

The second traffic stop leading to arrests for possession of stolen items occurred in Ascension Parish on LA 44 at approximately 3:00 p.m. today. State Police attempted to stop a vehicle with no license plate when the vehicle drove away quickly. The Trooper, with assistance from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and Gonzales Police Department, pursued the vehicle for a short time before both subjects in the vehicle were apprehended. The subjects, Louis Hebrard (B/M) and Rome Rodriguez (B/M), were both taken into custody by State Troopers. After Troopers apprehended the suspects, they noticed televisions, computers, jewelry, and other items believed to be stolen in the vehicle. Louisiana State Police Detectives were again called to assist with the burglary investigation. During the investigation, Troopers learned that the two subjects were likely involved in approximately 20 burglaries that have occurred over the past few months in the Baton Rouge area. Louisiana State Police Detectives are working with Baton Rouge City Police detectives to identify the items stolen.

State Troopers make traffic stops every single day throughout the state. These are just additional examples of the importance of attention to detail and awareness of surroundings in Troopers’ every day lives and on every single traffic stop. It is this professionalism and awareness of these Troopers and many others like them that keeps the Louisiana State Police in such high regard.
