7128 2015-04-19 Troop I Unrestrained Elton Woman Killed in Crash
Acadia Parish Shortly after 1:30 a.m. this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a crash on Interstate 10 west of Iota near milepost 68 in Acadia Parish. The crash took the life of 29 year old Emily Tramel of Elton.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Tramel was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Interstate 10 in the left lane. While traveling west, Tramel’s vehicle struck a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier from behind. The Cavalier was being driven by 20 year old Stephany St.Cyr of Harvey, Louisiana. After impact, Tramel ran off of the right side of the roadway and struck some trees. Tramel was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. St.Cyr was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop on the shoulder of the Interstate. St.Cyr, who was wearing a seat belt sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance.

It is unknown if impairment is a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from Tramel and St.Cyr and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained.

This was the 25th Fatal Crash and the 26th Fatality investigated by Troop I in 2015.
