TROOP I NEWS RELEASE April 18, 2015 Unrestrained New Iberia Man Killed in Crash Iberia Parish – Shortly after 8:30 p.m. last night, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single vehicle fatality crash on the US 90 South Frontage Road at Darnall Road. The crash took the life of 63 year old Wallace Davis of New Iberia. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Davis was driving a 2003 GMC pickup truck westbound on the US 90 South Frontage Road approaching Darnall Road. For unknown reasons Davis failed to negotiate a left curve and traveled off of the roadway and into the grass separator. Davis’ vehicle continued to travel west across Darnall Road before overturning. Davis was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries as a result and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. Driver impairment is unknown at this time. A toxicology sample was taken from Davis and submitted for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained.
