TROOP I NEWS RELEASE June 17, 2014 Four Former Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputies Arrested Lafayette Parish- In late April, Detectives with Louisiana State Police were contacted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff, Mike Neustrom, and were asked to conduct an investigation into four of his former deputies. The Sheriff informed Detectives that when the former deputies were still employed, an inmate was hospitalized with injuries he possibly received while housed at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. Based on their investigation, Detectives learned that in the early morning hours of April 8, 2014 an inmate in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center was causing a disturbance in his cell. The deputies, 33 year old Michael McSheffrey, and 28 year old Brandon Gallien, entered the cell and struck the inmate an excessive number of times. Two other deputies, 28 year old Adrian Theriot and 33 year old Scarla Celestine, watched as the events transpired and failed to stop the other deputies. The inmate sustained serious bodily injury which required him to spend several days in a local hospital. All four deputies failed to report the incident accurately to supervisors. Today, the former deputies turned themselves in to Detectives at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. They were charged as follows: Michael McSheffrey, 2nd Degree Battery and Malfeasance in Office Brandon Gallien, 2nd Degree Battery and Malfeasance in Office Adrian Theriot, Principle to 2nd Degree Battery and Malfeasance in Office Scarla Celestine, Principle to 2nd Degree Battery and Malfeasance in Office They were booked without incident.
