Two Children Killed and One Seriously Injured in Early Morning Crash

Breaux Bridge – At approximately 8:00 am on October 30, 2014, ...Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I (at the request of the Breaux Bridge Police Department) began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash involving three juvenile pedestrians that occurred on Martin St. west of LA Hwy 31 in St. Martin Parish. The crash took the lives of two children and seriously injured a third.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred at approximately 7:30 am as 32 year old Jeremy J. Abraham of Breaux Bridge was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 eastbound on Martin Street. At the same time the three juvenile pedestrians were walking eastbound along Martin St. in the eastbound lane of travel. For reasons still under investigation, Abraham’s pickup struck the children as they walked in the eastbound lane. After striking the children, the Ford pickup continued east before running off road to the right and entering a ditch on the south side of the roadway. As it entered the ditch, the Ford continued to travel in an easterly direction striking a utility pole and a culvert before crossing the intersection of Babineaux Street and reentering the ditch. The pickup reentered the ditch and struck a second culvert before coming to rest in the eastbound lane of Martin Street.

Abraham was taken into custody by Breaux Bridge police officers and is currently at Lafayette General Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. A toxicology sample was taken from Abraham and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

As a result of the crash one 15 year old juvenile female succumbed to injuries received at the scene. A second 14 year old juvenile female was transported to St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge where she succumbed to injuries received. A third 13 year old juvenile female was transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with serious injuries.

This remains an active investigation as Troopers continue to examine evidence and interview witnesses with charges against Abraham pending. As the investigation continues, further information will be forthcoming.
