TROOP I NEWS RELEASE

January 21, 2014
Single Vehicle Crash on I-10 Claims One Life

ACADIA PARISH- Today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on Interstate 10 west of Exit 76 which claimed one life.

According to investigating Troopers, at 3:10 p.m., a Chevrolet truck was traveling east on Interstate 10 near milepost 75. For reasons still under investigation, the driver veered off the left side of the road, overcorrected to the right and traveled off the right side of the road. The driver’s vehicle struck an embankment and overturned before coming to rest in a water filled ditch. The driver, who was restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The name of the driver is being withheld until the next-of-kin can be notified.

This crash remains under investigation.

While the toxicology results in this crash are still pending, Troopers remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Impairment remains a leading factor in fatal crashes across Acadiana. Even after having just one drink a persons decision making abilities are hindered. Troopers urge motorists to have a plan before they begin drinking.
