TROOP I NEWS RELEASE November 7, 2014 Duson Woman Killed in Single Vehicle Fatal Crash Lafayette Parish- Shortly after 7:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on LA Highway 342 near Brooklyn Street that claimed the life of 27 year old Sarah Leblanc of Duson. Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Leblanc was traveling east on LA 342 in a 2014 Toyota Camry. As Leblanc traveled eastbound, she failed to maintain control of the vehicle causing it to run off of the left side of the highway. Leblanc’s vehicle traveled through a ditch and into a building. After the impact, the building caught fire and Leblanc was found inside of the vehicle by the fire department. Due to the fire damage, it is unknown if Leblanc was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were taken from Leblanc and were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation. Impairment and lack of seat belt use continues to be leading factors in fatal crashes throughout Acadiana. Wearing a seat belt properly can greatly reduce a person’s risk of injury in most crashes. Seat belts allow crash forces to be spread across a large area of the body allowing a person to ride down the crash. Unrestrained persons are at a greater risk of sustaining severe or fatal injuries in a crash than a person who is restrained. Buckle up every time in every seating position. Not only is it the law, but it’s the best way to survive a crash.
