TROOP I NEWS RELEASE November 22, 2014 Overturned Tractor Trailer Crash Kills a Maurice Man Iberia Parish- Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single vehicle crash on US 90 near LA Highway 668 in Iberia Parish Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Kenworth tractor trailer, operated by 67 year-old Russell L. Charles of Maurice, was traveling east on US 90 and ran off of the right side of the roadway. Charles, overcorrected, traveled across both lanes of travel, and traveled into the median which caused the tractor trailer to overturn. Charles was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and pronounced Charles dead. Impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology samples were taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis This crash remains under investigation. Lack of seat belt use and distracted driving continues to be leading factors in injury and fatal crashes throughout Acadiana. Wearing a seat belt during a crash, can significantly reduce your chances of injury and better your chances of surviving the crash.
