TROOP I - NEWS RELEASE April 10, 2015 St. Mary Parish Crash Leaves a New Iberia Resident Dead Earlier today, shortly before 8:10 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I was dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Chitimacha Trail near Charenton. The crash claimed the life of a New Iberia resident and left a Franklin man in jail. The initial investigation revealed a 2011 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Chitimacha Trail entering a left curve. The driver of the Nissan failed to negotiate the curve, causing the vehicle to run off the right side of the roadway, enter a ditch and strike a culvert. After striking the culvert, the Nissan overturned several times ejecting a passenger, 20 year old Brylan Domingue of New Iberia. Domingue was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office. Three other occupants in the vehicle fled the scene after the crash. St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s K-9 was deployed and found two of the three occupants hiding in a field. One of the occupants is still being sought after. Further investigation by Troopers identified 28 year old Matthew Trosclair of Franklin, as the driver of the Altima. Impairment is considered to be a factor in this crash. Toxicology samples were taken from Trosclair and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Trosclair was arrested and booked at the St. Mary Parish Jail on the following: Vehicular Homicide, two (2) counts Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Hit and Run, Careless Operation and Failure to Report an Accident. Troopers witness firsthand the remarkable difference the use of a seat belt makes in reducing injuries and fatalities in crashes. Louisiana law requires every vehicle’s occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained, day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
