TROOP I NEWS RELEASE December 2, 2014 Motorcyclist Dies in Vermilion Parish Crash Vermilion Parish- Tonight, shortly before 6:00 p.m., a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 92 near Pressley Road claimed the life of a Maurice man.Preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Kawasaki Motorcycle driven by 22 year old Brandon Demette of Maurice was traveling west on LA Highway 92 approaching Pressley Road. A truck driven by 57 year old Sheldon Forest of Duson was pulling both a trailer and a vehicle on Pressley Road, and began to make a left turn onto LA Highway 92. While Sheldon was turning onto LA Highway 92, his truck was struck in the rear by the motorcycle. Demette was ejected from the motorcycle and as a result, received fatal injuries. Demette was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office. Forest did not receive any injuries. Forest was taken to a local facility for a chemical breath test and the results indicated he was not impaired. It is unknown if Demette was impaired when the crash occurred. Routine toxicology samples have been obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime lab for analysis. Troopers would like to remind motorist to look out for motorcycles and share the road. Please use caution when making turns off of Louisiana roadways and pulling out of private drives. Make sure the roadway is clear of traffic before entering and exiting the roadway. Operators of motorcycles should always obey the speed limit and be aware of other vehicles on or near the roadway.
