On December 30, 2014, shortly before 3:00 p.m., 30-year-old Emmanuel Wiltz of Breaux Bridge, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado south on LA 328. A 2003 Chevrolet Malibu operated by 56-year-old Betty Borel was traveling north on LA 328. As the two vehicles approached each other, Wiltz’s Silverado veered into the northbound lane striking Borel’s vehicle head on. Wiltz was wearing a seat belt and received minor injuries. Borel was also wearing a seat belt but sustained what were believed to be moderate injuries. Borel was transported to a local hospital for her injuries.

Wiltz was suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from Wiltz and Borel and were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

On December 30, 2014, Wiltz was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail on DWI, Resisting and/ or Obstruction of an Officer, Vehicular Negligent Injuring and Driving with a Suspended License.

In the evening hours of December 30, 2014, Troopers were notified by hospital personnel that Borel had succumbed to her injuries. Troopers contacted the St. Martin Parish Jail to have the charges amended due to the death of Borel. Troopers were informed Wiltz posted bond and was released from jail on the previous charges.

On January 2, 2015, Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Wiltz, charging him with Vehicular Homicide and Driving Left of Center. Wiltz was arrested and transported to the St. Martin Parish Jail where he was booked on the charges.

This crash remains under investigation.
