Unrestrained Crowley Woman Killed in Lafayette Parish Crash

Lafayette Parish - On July 21, 2017, shortly after 2:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 724 at Landry Road near Judice. The crash claimed the life of 23 year old Queyaishious Harmon of Crowley.

The initial investigation revealed that Harmon was operating a 1998 Honda Civic westbound on Landry Road and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection with LA 724. At the same time, 66 year old Julie Byers of Crowley was driving a 2006 Ford Expedition northbound on LA 724. As the Honda entered the intersection, it was struck on its driver’s side by the Ford. After impact, the Ford and Honda traveled off of the roadway and came to rest against a tree.

Queyaishious Harmon was not wearing a seat belt and sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead on scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office. The front seat passenger, 25 year old Kira Harmon, of Crowley was not wearing a seat belt and sustained critical injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Byers was wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples were taken from Harmon and Byers and the results are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

While the evidence pertaining to this crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, carelessness, and lack of restraint use continue to be factors in preventable crashes.
