State Police Detectives Arrest Mermentau Chief of Police

Mermentau – Earlier today, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation/Lafayette Field Office arrested Amos J. Crader Sr., the Police Chief of Mermentau, for charges related to theft and malfeasance in office.

In June of this year, the Acadia Parish District Attorney’s Office contacted Louisiana State Police and requested State Police Detectives investigate a complaint their office received of an alleged theft of funds taken by Chief Crader. During the investigation, Detectives determined that Crader made several unauthorized monetary withdrawals from the Mermentau Police Officers Association (MPOA) bank account, which he opened. On three separate occasions, Crader illegally withdrew funds from the account for personal gains.

On July 27, 2017, an arrest warrant was issued for Crader for violation of Theft under $500 (3 counts) and Malfeasance in Office (3 counts). State Police detectives located and arrested Chief Crader on the above charges. He was transported to and booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.
